spin-thron-
spin-thron- is an intimate ritual/performance piece by artist Kristin Bauer that synthesizes embodied gestural movement, constructed sound and channeled collective presence in exploration of manifested archetypal mythology. Named after the etymological Proto-Germanic root word for spider (literally translated to “spinner”), this piece explores the shadow symbolism of the spider, creation and destruction, and weaving/ web-spinning as metaphor and depth meditation, the artist enacts spin-thron- in weaving caution tape amidst the delineated interior center of the space. Following the haphazard patterning of black widow spider web, amidst shadowy chromatic light-scape, the artist’s silent repetitive movements hover within the tension of opposites, in embodying exploration of both captor and captive. Atmospheric sound created by Bauer amplifies through the space, adapting chords of Danzig's “Mother” composed through slow droning synthesizer and noise filters.
spin-thron- is the second iteration to spinne (“to spin"), a ritual based performance piece the artist created and enacted on Nov 7, 2022, hours before a total lunar eclipse. Executed in the basement space of Millville Studios in Tucson, AZ, spinne covered the entire space, floor to ceiling, wall to wall. spin-thron- seeks balance in the opposites, bringing the piece above ground, reversing light and directionals, and containing elements of the first iteration within a centered framework.
